Abstract
PURPOSE:To melt an electrode, fill the same in a hollow cylindrical steel plate and form a shaft which is strong against bending by abutting a strap to the divided part in the lengthwise direction of said steel plate and inserting a fusible electrode in said plate. CONSTITUTION:A fusible electrode 13 is inserted into the molten part 12 of a hollow cyoindrical steel plate 10 and current is supplied thereto. Then, the electrode 13 is melted by electric resistance heat and a molten slag 16 also melts, thereby preventing molten metal 17 from oxidizing. Accompanying melting of electrode 13, the molten part 12 of the steel plate 10 is gradually filled with the molten metal 17, and is prevented from flowing out from a divided part 11 by a copper strap 14. Thence, the water-cooled copper strap 14 slides to cool, solidify and set the molten metal 18 of the divied part 11. While the divided part 11 of a steel material 10 is melted by this, the molten metal 17 in the molten part 12 gradually solidifies and sets from below, thus the shaft 20 formed with the cylindrical steel plate 10 on the surface layer part is obtained.
