Abstract
PURPOSE: To achieve the optimization of material used by forming a bearing support part and blade of stainless steel through electroslag melting to the top end of a mild steel shaft.
CONSTITUTION: The faying end surface of a mild steel shaft 11 is formed in concave form and electrodes 22, 23, 24 are provided in the water cooled copper strappings 13, 14 which are lower in starting part as compared to the outside edge part of the faying end surface and are formed with gaps between the outside edge part of the faying end surface. Specified flux is then supplied. Current is supplied between the shaft 11 and electrode 22 to melt the flux with the arc. Then, the arc extinguishes and the electrode 22 is melted by the resistance heat of the molten slag. Thence, the electrode 22 is lowered to be kept melted, whereby a bearing support 31 is formed on the faying surface 12 of the shaft 11. Next, water cooled copper strappings 18, 19 are mounted and slags 29, 30 are held in slag chambers 20, 21. When the electrode 22 is lowered, the electrode 22 melts in the molten slag, whereby a blades 22 and bearing support part 33 are formed.
