Abstract

PURPOSE: An antitumon agent for human beings and animals having low toxicity, having extremely suppressive action on the hypodermic implantation tumor of Ehrlich carcinoma, comprising a benzylidene compound of a polyfunctional alcohol as an active ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: A compound (e.g., 2,4-monobenzylidenesorbitol) shown by the formula I (X1 and X3 are single bond or H; X2 is single bond or H; R is H or alkyl; m is 1W4; n is 1W3) is blended with an organic or inorganic, liquid or solid excipient (e.g., water, getatin, etc.), an auxiliary (e.g., preservative, mois- tening agent, etc.), a clathrate agent (e.g., cyclodextrin, etc.) to give an antitumor agent in the form of pharmaceutical preparation to be administered orally or parenterally. A dose of the active ingredient is 0.5W6,000mg per adult daily. The compound shwon by the formula I is obtained by reacting a compound shown by the formula II (e.g., triose, etc.) with a compound shown by the formula III (e.g., benzaldehyde, etc.).
