Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the atmospheric diffusion of high-pressure gas and prevent noise and the losses of gas energy by reducing or expanding the inside volume of a preliminary chamber communicating with the upper bell chamber of a blast furnace and regulating the pressure in the upper bell chamber. CONSTITUTION:A preliminary chamber 4 communicated with an upper bell chamber is provided and a piston seat 5 is moved by elongating or contracting cylinders 6, 6' to elongate or contract a shielding membrance 7 by the movement thereof so that the inside volume of the preliminary chamber 4 is made arbitrarily changeable. For example, if the cylinders 6, 6' are contracted most, the upper bell chamber 1 assumes atmospheric pressure and therefore, sealing valves 2, 2' are opened and furnace top hopper gates 3, 3' are opened to discharge raw materials into the chamber 1 . Next, when the valves 2, 2' are closed and the cylinders 6, 6' are extended, the pressure in the chamber 1 assumes the same pressure as that in the lower bell chamber 19; therefore, an upper bell 20 is opened to discharge the raw materials into the chamber 19.
