Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to a fixed-precision focusing signal, by correcting inclination of the slope signal by the contrast signal to obtain a slope signal independent of contrast of the object.
CONSTITUTION: If phase slip j' between patterns A and B formed by outputs of photoelectric elements A1WAn and B1WBn becomes zero and double images agree with each other, the focus is obtained. Then, output signals a1Wan and b1Wbn of photoelectric elements are subjected to operation V=[(ai-bi+1)r-(ai+1-bi)p] and so on to obtain slope signal 3 which becomes zero in the focusing position and has the polarity inverted by the front pin or the back pin as shown in the figure. Though slope signal 3 changes dependently upon contrast of the object, inclination of the slope signal becomes fixed independently of change of contrast by dividing slope signal 3 by contrast signal 4, and thus, focusing range R becomes fixed.
