PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of the whole system by preventing the generation of an erroneous output with a simple constitution by monitoring the functions of a final-stage output element by comparing its input and output signals mutually. CONSTITUTION:At the final stage of printed substrate 5 of a digital output circuit, NAND gate 1 monitoring input signal (a) and photocoupler 2 are provided. Further, this monitoring circuit is provided with photocoupler 3 and comparator 4 monitoring the operation state of coupler 2. Then, input signal (b) outputted by gate 1 to coupler 2 in response to input signal (a) is compared by comparator 4 with output signal (d) of coupler 3 that corresponds to output signal (c) of coupler 2; when signals (b) and (d) agree mutually, coupler 2 is considered to be in normal operation and when not, coupler 2 is judged to be in trouble. Thus, comparator 4 exercises a monitor over the state of the final stage to prevent the generation of an erroneous output with the simple constitution, thereby improving the reli ability of the whole system.
