Abstract

PURPOSE: To maintain the flow rate of an exhaust gas recirculation device EGR at a constant level during the vehicle being decelerated by supplying air from an air introduction valve into a pressure chamber defined in an EGR passage between an EGR control valve and an orifice member provided downstream of the EGR control valve so as to flow off solid matters attaching to the inner wall of the EGR passage.
CONSTITUTION: When a throttle valve 5 is opened with its tip end overpassing a negative pressure port 15, an intake negative pressure is introduced into a negative pressure chamber 13 of the EGR control valve 7 through a duct 16. Consequently, a valve body 9 of the EGR control valve 7 is lifted up to open a valve port 8. Then, the pressure within the pressure chamber 18 defined within the EGR passage 6 by the orifice member 17 is increased and when it exceeds a predetermined value, a valve body 21 of a negative pressure regulating valve 19 moves leftwards through a diaphragm 24 to open a valve port 20. As a result, the atmospheric air is introduced into the duct 16 through an air filter 28 so that the valve body 21 is displaced in the closing direction for the purpose of maintaining the flow rate of the EGR to be constant.
