Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a carbon material making an improved sliding noise and having improved wear resistance by blending aggregate and expanded graphite in a predetermined ratio and adding a binder after which they are kneaded, pulverized, molded, and sintered.
CONSTITUTION: ≥50wt% aggregate and ≤50wt% expanded graphite are blended, and a binder is added to the blend. As the aggregate natural graphite, artificial graphite, calcined coke or the like is used, and the binder includes tar, pitch and synthetic resin. The expanded graphite is obtd. by an ordinary method. After adding an adequate amount of a solid lubricant such as molybdenum disulfide or graphite fluoride furthermore, they are kneaded, pulverized, die press formed, and calcined at about 800W1,200°C in a calcining furnace. Thus, a carbon material making an improved noise and having improved wear resistance is obtd.
