Abstract
PURPOSE: To impart the hydrophilic and antistatic properties and light resistance to a composite fiber, by forming a thermoplastic resin and a modified thermoplastic resin containing a specific hydrophilic compound into a composite fiber of specific constitution, and removing part of the modified resin.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A fiber-forming thermoplastic resin, e.g. a polyester, as a sheath component and (B) a thermoplastic resin containing 2W20wt%, preferably 3W15wt%, polyalkylene glycol (derivative), preferably polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight ≥6,000, are subjected to the composite spinning to form a fiber, in which part of the component B is exposed along the whole length of the fiber in the range expressed by formula I (ED is formula II) and 50% or more the cross- sectional perimeter of the component B is surrounded by the component A. The composite fiber thus obtained is treated with a weight reduction treating agent, e.g. an alkaline compound, to reduce the weight of the fiber by 15% or less, preferably 10% or less, and of the component B by 1W15%, preferably 2W10%.
EFFECT: No uncomfortable feeling in use as clothing.
