Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a fiber having improved water and moisture absorbing properties and durability without fibrillating by abrasion, by melt spinning a mixture of specific polyesters into a hollow fiber, and treating the fiber with an alkali to form micropores communicating to the hollow part.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A polyester modified with a polyoxyalkylene glycol, preferably having an average molecualr weight ≥300, is incorporated with (B) an unmodified polyester, and melt spun into a hollow fiber. The fiber is then treated with an aqueous solution of an alkaline compound to remove at least part, preferably 10wt% or more, of the component (A) and form micropores, which are scattered over the cross section of the fiber, oriented in the axial direction and communicated to the hollow part at least partly. Preferably, the weight ratio between (A) and (B) is 5:100W100:100, and the amount of the polyoxyalkylene glycol in (A) is 0.5W40wt% based on the polyester in (A).
