Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the blocking of nozzles by making electromagnetic force operate on molten steel flowing down in a tundish nozzle for continuous casting. CONSTITUTION:Around each tundish nozzle 4, electromagnetic stirring device 5 is provided. Electromagnetic stirring devices 5 are connected to electric power unit 7 via cables 6 and generate AC magnetic fields in nozzles 2 by AC electric current from electric power source unit 7. As a result, induced current is generated in molten steel flowing down in nozzle 2 and through the mutual effect with this induced current, a rotational flow is generated in the molten steel. This rotational flow and dropping flow are mixed in one to stirr the molten steel spirally, so that low-temperature molten steel and inclusions can be prevented from sticking nozzle 2.
