Abstract

PURPOSE: To vary a torque absorbed from a prime mover, with a view to utilizing power effectively, by providing small bores in a back surface of a stator blade of a stator vane wheel in a fluid type torque converter joint, and connecting the small bores to a fluid pressure source via a valve.
CONSTITUTION: In a torque converter joint, a pressure oil entering an inlet port 6 flows in the direction of arrows through a pump vane wheel P and a turbine vane wheel T to be discharged through a speed between a fixed shaft 4 and an output shaft 3. The inlet port 6 is capable of being opened by an electromagnetic valve 8 into an oil pasage 9 in the fixed shaft 4, and the oil passage 9 is opened via an oil port 10 into an annular groove 11 provided in a base portion S' of a stator vane wheel S. The annular groove 11 is opened into an oil port 13 provided in a stator blade 12, and the oil port 13 is opened in opposition to back surface 12a of a stator blade 12 via small bores 14. The valve 8 mentioned above is adapted to be opened when the rotational speed of the pump vane wheel P has attained a predetermined level, to allow the inlet oil pressure to be ejected from the small bores 14. Thus, an absorption torque can be varied.
