Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the bond struength at the interface of a cutting edge layer of a diamond- base sintered material and a holding layer of special steel and improve toughness, machineability, etc. by forming the composite sintered part piece to be mounted to a cutting edge part into the two-layer composite body of said cutting edge layer and holding layer.
CONSTITUTION: A green compact piece of special steel or the like is inserted into a vessel, and the diamond-base powder to form its upper cutting edge layer is inserted and filled therein, thence these are sintered under an extra high pressure and temp., after which they are quickly cooled. This yields the composite sintered part piece comprising the two-layer composite body of a holding layer 1 imparted with hardness and a cutting edge layer 2 of a diamond-base sintered material.
