Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve tenacity and enable repeated use of sleeves by refractory lining the inner surface of sleeves at both ends of a metal mold that forms a neck of a composite roll and further lining with steel plates and thereby quickening solidification of the core.
CONSTITUTION: Sleeves 4, 4' are inserted to both ends of a metal mold 1 and refractory lining is applied on the inner surface. After forming an outer shell 3 with the centrifugal casting metal mold 2 lined the surface with steel plate 5, 5', the molten metal or core material is poured. At this time the steel plates 5, 5' are already preheated and, due to the molten metal of core material, the steel plates 5, 5' adhere closely to the refractory lining layer inside of the sleeves 4, 4' to quicken solidification of the core material and prevent fusioned penetration of the sleeve 4, 4' to the core material.
