Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a cylindrical roll material of superior fracture resistance by laying sand molds of more than specific thickness on the inside surfaces of metallic molds, disposing metallic mold bands of specific wall thickness on both ends, and allowing poured molten metal to directionally solidify in the axial direction of the roll.
CONSTITUTION: Sand molds 3 of ≥10mm thickness are set on the inside surfaces of metallic molds 1, and metallic mold bads 4 of thickness of ≥1/4 the length of the roll to be cast are provided in both end openings. Molten metal is poured into such metallic molds 1 for centrifugal casting from a pouring spout 6 under the rotation of the molds 1, and the molten metal is allowed to solidify directionally in the axial direction of the roll, whereby the cylindrical roll material is centrifugally cast.
