Abstract

PURPOSE: A dope containing a polyvinyl alcohol resin with a specific acetylation degree is extruded through annular nozzles and coagulated under specified conditions to produce the titled fiber suitably used as an ultrafiltration memberane for recovery of electrocoating paints because of its high flux and strength.
CONSTITUTION: A polyvinyl acetal resin with an acetylation degree of higher than 40mol% is dissolved in a solvent such as dimethylsulfoxide to prepare a dope of 10W30% polymer concentration and 1W1,000 poise viscosity. The dope is extruded through annular nozzles using a solvent that can coagulate polyvinyl acetal and is compatible with the dope solvent such as water as the core liquid and coagulation bath to form fibers, which are washed with water to produce the objective holow fibers. After coagulation, moisture-heat treatment of the hollow fibers is preferred at 40W70°C.
