Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit an internal-combustion engine knocking detector to perform a stable and highly sensitive knocking detection by making at least one portion of the magnetic path of a nonconductive magnetic material in order to decrease the eddy current generated by the magnetic flux penetrating through the magnetic path.
CONSTITUTION: The knocking vibration is transmitted through a housing 27 to a vibrator 21. On doing this, only a reed piece 21a vibrates in a magnetic path, resulting in the variation of a gap G. This causes the magnetic reluctance in the magnetic path to vary, and consequently a voltage output corresponding to the magnetic flux change is generated in a coil 25. The signal is outputted to a detection circuit 3 through two signal-wires. Because the resonance point of the reed piece 21a has been tuned to the knocking frequency, a higher knocking detection sensitivity can be obtained. Moreover, because the vibrator 21, a bar-shaped magnetic substance 23 and a sealing plate 28 which constitute the magnetic path of a magnet 22 are made of nonconductive magnetic materials such as sintered alloy or cast iron, the eddy current generation in the magnetic path is decreased, and the generation of heat due to the eddy current loss is prevented. Therefore, the fall of the output can be prevented.
