Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit detection of even feeble knocking by providing a vibration- electricity converting means which generates the electric output corresponding to the vibration of a disc-shaped vibrator having a resonance frequency within the knocking frequency band. CONSTITUTION:A sensor 2 is firmly mounted to the engine block portion through the screw portion 22b. The engine vibration caused by knocking is transmitted through a housing 22 and the inner magnetic path 23 to a vibrator 21, and the vibrating portion 21a thereof vibrates. The vibrating portion 21a faces to the end of the center magnetic path portion 26 through an air gap of the order of 0.1-0.2mm.. In the magnetic circuit, the magnetic flux is passed through in the order of the N pole of a magnet 25, the center magnetic path portion 26, the air gap, the vibrator 21, a spacer 27, the inner magnetic path 23 and the S pole of the magnet 25. When the vibrating portion 21a of the vibrator 21 bivrates, the magnetic flux the magnetic circuit varies, causing a voltage to be induced in a detecting coil 24, and the signal therefrom is drawn out to the outside through lead wires 29 and a connector 30.
