Abstract

PURPOSE: To decide the seal-up degree of a water jacket, by blocking a water jacket which does not contain cooled water and measuring the amount of the fluid shifting between the pressure source and the jacket while applying a fixed level of pressure into the jacket from an external pressure source.
CONSTITUTION: For the engine 1 which is through with the assembling line process, cooled water flow-out port 5 from the water jacket 4 to the radiator, the flow-out port 6 from the jacket 4 to the car heater, and the return port 7 from the car heater to the jacket 4 are blocked with the caps 8, 9 and 10. Then the negative pressure supplied from the external pressure source 20 is conveyed to the whole jacket 4 through the hoses 19 and 13 plus the cooled water flow-in port 11. The amount of air which flows within the hose 19 toward the source 20 and in the unit time is measured by the flow rate meter 21 in the state under which the negative pressure within the jacket 4 is kept at a fixed level by the pressure control valve 23. In such way, the seal-up degree of the water jacket 4 can be decided easily.
