Abstract

PURPOSE: To even the pressure to be applied upon optical fiber strands, considerably reduce optical transmission losses, make production easy and lower cost by sealing the optical fiber strands into the hermetic tube filled with noncompressive fluid.
CONSTITUTION: The optical fiber strands 6 compsed of a plurality of quartz glass are sealed together with water glass or noncompressive fluid 5 of the density approximate to that of the optical fibers into a hermetic tube 4 of pliable structure such as plastics or rubber. Tension members 3 composed of steel wires or the like are disposed on the outside of the hermetic tube 4 to prevent disconnection. On the outside thereof formed a copper tube 2 for electric power feeding by winding together of a copper plate. A polyethylene jacket 1 is covered on the outside thereof. Even if the hermetic tube 4 deforms, even force is applied upon the optical fiber strands 6 and owing to the noncompressive fluid 5. Hence, optical transmission losses may be reduced considerably, and the production becomes easy and advantageous in terms of cost.
