PURPOSE:To decrease the variance in the output level of a magnetic head, by displacing a head chip supported through a bimorph plate while rotating it with a rotating drum, in axial direction of the rotating drum, and forming a given curved surface on the chip surface with a wrapping tape running on the external circumference of the drum. CONSTITUTION:A bimorph plate 23 supporting a head chip 22 at the tip is fitted to a rotating drum 25 with a screw 26 together with a head base 24, and while a wrapping tape 27 is wound on the external circumference of the rotating drum 25 and it is rotated in direction E, the wrapping tape 27 is run in direction F in a given speed. With this state, when a drive voltage is fed to the bimorph plate 23, it displaces and the head chip 22 is driven in axial direction 28 of the rotating drum 25. Thus, the tip of the head chip 22 is polished to form a curved surface 22a having a given curvature (r) along the direction of the rotating shaft 28 (direction C shown in Figure).
