Abstract
PURPOSE: To effectively oxidize combustible odorous substances for deodorization by using heating body made of a semiconductor porcelain having a great number of through holes and a positive resistance characteristics as a catalyst element for the treatment of exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: A catalyst element, used for the treatment of combustible odorous substances present in exhaust gas, is obtained by supporting a substance having a catalytic activity, e.g., platinum, etc., on the inner walls of plural through holes formed in a heating body made of a semiconductor porcelain having a positive resistance temperature characteristic. An electric current is applied to the catalyst element to directly heat it to a proper temperature, and then exhaust gas containing offensively odorous combustible substances is passed through the catalyst elements, thereby combustible substances in exhaust gas are oxidized and therefore, offensive odors can be effectively removed.
