Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the titled catalyst obtd. by supporting a V cpd. and a platinum cpd. in succession on a catalyst substrate rendered porous and oxidized, which catalyst has high NH3 oxidative decomposition activity stably and continuously, and can minimize the amt. of NOx formed by oxidation of NH3. CONSTITUTION:A metallic material of a desired shape, e.g. a stainless steel sheet is plated with Al, heat treated to diffuse the Al in the material, and rendered porous by eluting the Al. The porous material is stepwise oxidized at around room temp.-400 deg.C in an O2-contg. atmosphere under mild conditions. The resulting catalyst substrate is then dipped in an aq. soln. of a V cpd. such as ammonium metavanadate, dried, dipped in an aq. soln. of a platinum cpd. such as chloroplatinic acid, and dried to obtain a desired NH3 oxidative decomposition catalyst. This catalyst has superior poisoning resistance to SOx contained in exhaust gas and shows a very small press. loss when packed.
