Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a sludge of low water content having improved characteristics in its handling and combustibility, by regulating the quality of the sludge discharged from a conventional system and dehydrating it under high pressure.
CONSTITUTION: The extracted sludge is added with filter aid and coagulant and then dehydrated by the vacuum dehydrator 10 and discharged. The dehydrated sludge 11 is fed to the crusher 13 by means of the sludge transport conveyer 12 and discharged as crushed sludge 14. The crushed sludge 14 is then fed to the belt press 15 which is acting as a secondary dehydrator and dehydrated there while being pinched between two endless filter clothes 15a, 15b running in directions of arrow A and B, and meandering between rollers 15C. Thus, the sludge is discharged as a form of secondary dehydrated sludge 16, for example, in ≤60% water content. If necessary, the high pressure belt press being equipped with the high pressure belt 15d applying large pressing force is used. Occasionally, a filter press is also used as a secondary dehydrator.
