Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A quinoline derivative of formula I (R1 is lower alkyl; R2 is halogen, nitro, amino, or lower alkanoylamino; R3 is halogen or hydroxy) and its salt.
EXAMPLE: 5-Nitro-6-chloroquinaldine.
USE: An antimicrobial agent and antimalarial agent. A synthetic intermediate of the compounds of formula II and formula III useful as antimicrobial agents.
PROCESS: For example, nitration of a compound of formula 2 (X1 is halogen) affords the compound of formula Ia, which can be converted to the compound of formula Ib by substituting the halogen atom with hydroxy group. Reduction of the compounds of formula Ia and I b gives the compound of formula Ic, which is converted to the compound of formula Id (R4 is H or alkyl) by the lower alkanoylation of the amino group of the compound of formula Ic. The halogen-substitution reaction of the amino group of the compound of formula Ic affords the compound of formula Ie.
