Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled repairing material that is obtained by adding a small amount of fluoride to a dental silver amalgam alloy, thus remarkably increasing the edge strength because of its increase in compression strength and fracture energy and showing the preventive effect against secondary decay.
CONSTITUTION: A dental silver amalgam alloy mainly containing silver and tin is combined with 0.05W0.25, preferably 0.05W0.20wt% of a fluoride such as tin fluoride, zinc fluoride or sodium fluoride to give the material for repairing dental cavity. The addition of the above fluoride causes the remarkable increase in the compression strength and fracture energy of the repairing material, resulting in the increase of the edge strength of the filler used for repairing to prevent the secondary decay caused by the gap formation by edge fracture of the filler. When the amount of fluoride added exceeds the range cited above, the compression strength and fracuture energy become lower than before the addition.
