Abstract

PURPOSE:To correct the charging voltage at each deflection stage reliably by a method wherein detecting electrodes are placed in two or more positions so as to detect the charge amount of the charged ink droplet when the latter passes by, and the charging voltge at each deflection is corrected on the basis of the detected charge amount. CONSTITUTION:The ink droplets are charged in accordance with the number of the deflection stages, and deflected in accordance with the charge amount. A pair of detectors 7a, 7b and a pair of detectors 6a, 6b are provided at the minimum deflection stage 0 and at the maximum deflection stage n, respectively, of the charged ink droplets. In the case where the charging voltage at each of the deflection stages is set in accordance with the curve (a), with the initial charging voltages at the minimum deflection stage 0 and the maximum deflection stage n being Vomin and Vmax respectively, the charging voltage is corrected in accordance with the solid- line curve connecting the charging voltages Vmin and Vmax when the latter voltages are obtained by the detectors as a result of the change of the conditions.
