Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the simple beam converting element which converts the laser beams of different aspect ratios to circular shapes by having the two-dimensional shape which becomes concave in the convex and orthogonal directions in the one- dimensional direction and making the curvature ratios of both faces equal to the aspect ratios of the laser beams.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of a semiconductor laser 10 of double-hetero structure, its beam waist is about 0.1μm×0.5μm and the radiated light 13 of the semiconductor laser becomes the laser 13 of an elliptical shape which has a spread to 40° or more and is long in the Y direction owing to diffraction phenomena. To convert the laser light having te elliptical shape long in the Y direction to a circular shape, the problem may be solved by inserting a laser beam converting element 12 which is a convex lens in the Y direction and has a concave lens in the X direction into the optical path. Namely, circular laser light 14 is obtained by selecting the lens curvatures of both lenses. Hence, the simple beam converting element which converts the laser beams differing in a radiation angle with aspect ratios to circular beams may be obtained.
