Abstract
PURPOSE: To suppress the by-product of aniline and to improve the selectivity of indole, by diluting a raw material with aniline in one-step direct preparation of indole through heating N-β-hydroxyethylaniline in the pesence of a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: N-β-hydroxyethylaniline is heated in the presence of a catalyst to give indole industrially advantageously by one-step direct method. In the reaction, the raw material, N-β-hydroxyethylaniline is diluted with aniline and reacted. A concentration of the raw material in aniline is 5W50wt%, preferably 10W30wt%. The raw material is obtained by reacting excess aniline with ethylene oxide, exists generally as an aniline solution containing 10W20wt% of N-β-hydroxyethylaniline. Therefore the synthetic solution can be used for indole synthetic reaction and is suitable for industrial preparation.
