Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to obtain superior development free of under development or the like in the middle area of an image even in case of developing a large area, by applying a bias voltage reverse in polarity to potential on nonexposed areas to the substrate of a photoreceptor.
CONSTITUTION: Photosensitive layer 6 on substrate 10 of a photoreceptor is positively charged, exposed to an original light image, and developed. At that time, a negative voltage reverse in polarity to positive potential VE on nonexposed area E is applied to photoreceptor substrate 5, resulting in converting the potential on exposed area F into negative potential VF and producing electric field 8 between positively charged colored particles 9 and exposed area F all over area F, thus permitting large area development free of an edge effect as shown in D to be made. In the above example, a positive type photoreceptor is used, but even when a negative type photoreceptor is used, similar operation is carried out except reverse charge signs.
