Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform the dehydration of sludge economically by operating a freezing and thawing tank by means of a gas engine using a gas generated in the digestion of sludge as a fuel.
CONSTITUTION: The organic sludge SL is charged into the digestion tank 10 where it is digested under an anaerobic condition to form a digestion gas composed primarily or methane, and then the digestion gas as a fuel gas is converted into a high- pressure gas by the compressor 12, and then supplied to the gas engine 14 by which the compressor 16 of the freezing circuit RC is operated to take out cold and hot engies obtained in the evaporator 22 and the condenser 18 through a refrigerating liquid. Then, the energies are supplied to the freezing and thawing tanks 30 and 32. In this case, the refrigerating liquid serves to transmit the cold and hot energies to the tanks 30 and 32 through the pumps 28 from the tanks 24 and 26 by switching their valves properly.
