Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an Fe-Si alloy having satisfactory corrosion and high temp. oxidation resistances by adding a specified percentage of C, N and Si to Fe.
CONSTITUTION: This alloy having superior corrosion resistance consists of 0.01W 0.50% C, 0.01W0.10% N, 5.0W20.0% Si and the balance essentially Fe. By adding 1.0W10.0% Al and/or 3.0W10.0% Cr to the basic composition, the corrosion and oxidation resistances are further enhanced. The addition of 0.50W2.0% Co and/or 0.50W2.0% Cu results in enhanced sulfuric acid resistace. 0.1W3.0% Mo and/or 0.5W5.0% Ni may be added furthermore to enhance the corrosion resistance. Mn, Nb, Ta, Zr, Ti, V, W, Te and REM improve the workability, and Ca, Pb, S and Se improve the machinability.
