Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the yield of sulfur by inhibitting the byproduct of hydrogen sulfide by a method wherein a cooling means is built at the upper part of the counterflow type moving bed reactor. CONSTITUTION:In a counterflow type moving bed reactor designed to reduce SO2 in a gas containing SO2 to sulfur by bringing the gas in counter flow contact with a moving bed of carbonic particles moving downward vertically, a cooling section 6 is provided to cool the top level of the bed 3 indirectly. A gas ascends through the bed and is exhausted through an outlet tube 7 via the cooling section. Cooling the top thereof tending to rise in temperature can reduce the byproducts of hydrogen sulfide, eventually maintaining the sulfur yield at a high level.
