Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to use a memory of relatively small capacity and to reduce the number of memories by storing each memory with a code of lower N bits of each coded signal and its code length corresponding to the number of run length. CONSTITUTION:The special code constitution of an MH(modified Hoffman) is effectively utilized here. Then, the 1st memory 5 is stored previously with a code of eight low-order bits of each MH code equivalent to the number of fun length that address signals A5-A0 express, and the 2nd memory 6 with a binary code expressing the code length (number of bits) of each MH code. Memories 5 and 6 are so constituted that a white or black MH code when address signal A6 shows ''0'' or ''1'' respectively will be read out and a make-up code when address signal A7 shows ''0'' will be read out. Therefore, a coding memory can use that of small bit memory capacity.
