CONSTITUTION:In transmitting a facsimile picture signal coded into a MH code, as to the MH code where the code word length exceeds 8-bit, a code table storing the bit pattern for coding words of lower-order bit and for code word length of the MH code is used, and as to the MH code in 8-bit or below, the table storing all the bit pattern of the code word and the bit pattern relating to the code word length of the MH code is used. After a signal in 0-bit number subtracting 8 from the code word length exceeding 8-bit is transmitted, the 8-bit pattern of the code table is transmitted. When 8-bit or below, the number of bits only determined with the bit pattern of the code word is transmitted.
