Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve photocoupling efficiency, to facilitate manufacture and to attain reduction in cost by forming a coupler of a light-transmissive mateial and by making in one body an insertion part into which a light emitting element, etc., are inserted, the other insertion part for optical fibers, and a lens between insertion parts. CONSTITUTION:Coupling member 10 integrally molded out of a light-transmissive material, e.g. transparent acrylic resin, is composed of groove 11 where optical fiber 2 is inserted, groove 12 where light emitting diode 5 is inserted and lens 13. Grooves 11 and 12, which are only for inserting optical fiber 2 and light emitting diode 5 respectively, are so relatively positioned that light emitted from light emitting diode 5 will be incident to optical fiber 2 effectively. Lens 13, on the other hand, conducts the light from light emitting diode 5, even in a scattered state, to optical fiber by focusing it and is molded out of the light-transmissive material together with grooves 11 and 12 in a body. Because of the above-mentioned constitution, the effect of lens 13 improves the photocoupling efficiency in addition to the stable position relation between photodetector 5 and optical fiber 2 and their facilitated coupling.
