Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently supply the quantity of heat required to reduce sulfur dioxide, when a sulfur dioxide-contg. gas is passed through a carbonaceous heated layer, by introducing oxygen into the layer to maintain the heated state with heat of reaction.
CONSTITUTION: A carbonaceous solid is supplied from duct 2 to sulfur dioxide reducing reactor 1 in a dry desulfurization process or other process, and ashes as reaction residue is drawn out of duct 3. A sulfur dioxide-contg. gas generated by regenerating a carbonaceous adsorbent enters reactor 1 from duct 4, contacts with the carbonaceous solid, and is fed to a treatment process from duct 5 as a sulfur- contg. gas. In this process an oxygen-contg. gas is introduced into reactor 1 through control valve 6 which is controlled with operational controller 9 receiving electromotive forces of thermocouples 8 set in reactor 1. Thus, the internal temp. of reactor 1 is maintained at below the melting temp. of ashes as reaction residue to raise the sulfur dioxide reducing rate.
