Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce a mechanical damage of an adsorbent due to its movement to prevent the decrease of its adsorption capacity by a method wherein many adsorbent units are filled in a column and an elavating device is used to move the units up and down between both sides of gas inlet and outlet.
CONSTITUTION: Several adsorbent units 5 are filled in the adsorption column 1 in such a way that the protrusion 5B of the unit 5 is inserted into the recess 5A of the next unit and they are mounted into the elevating device 4. After all units are filled, the gas-seal section 6 is sealed, waste gas is guided from an inlet 3 and desulfurized gas 8 is discharged through an outlet 2. The unit in the lowest stage reduces its adsorption capacity due to SO2 adsorption, so it is removed from the column. The elevating device 4 is lowered the distance equal to the height of the unit. A new unit is filled on the topmost unit. The units in the column sequentially move from the side of the waste gas outlet to the side of the inlet.
