Abstract

PURPOSE: To drastically improve the capacity for separating oil from water concerning sewage water by a method wherein cassettes filled with adsorbent, which hardly absorbs water, are detachably contained in a treating tower.
CONSTITUTION: Oil-contg. sewage water is freed from solid floating material by a filter 15, is passed through pump 16 into a degassing tower 17 to remove gas mixed in the sewage water. The viscosity of the water is then adjusted and oil component is formed into particles, then is introduced into a treating tower 8 so that the water goes up sequentially through water passage holes 2 by pressurizing with pump 15. Untreated solid floating material is sequentially adsorbed, together with oil, by an adsorbent 3 at the lower part of cassette 1. In this case, no clogging occurs in the tower 8 because the water goes up through the holes while diffusing to the adsorbent layer 3. During the diffusion of water up to the upper end of the holes 2, the oil is diffused and adsorbed by the layer 3, so that treated water containing little oil can be discharged out of the system. Adsorbent 3 of particle type, capable of adsorbing oil, having water-absorption of less than about 0.3, and consisting particularly of PP is preferred.
