Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect a phase error with high precision without increasing the scale of a circuit, by quantizing an in-phase component or its multiple-angle component from an orthogonal demodulator roughly and an orthogonal- phase component or its multiple-angle component thinnly. CONSTITUTION:A two-phase phase-modulated signal from terminal 1 is inputted to orthogonal demodulator 2 and demodulated with reference phase signal (y) from voltage control oscillator 5 and in-phase component (u) and orthogonal-phase component (v) are outputted to quantizing circuits 7 and 8. Circuit 7 quantizes roughly in-phase component (u) or its multiple-angle component, and circuit 8 quantizes orthogonal-phase component (v) or its multiple-angle component thinnly. Outputs of circuit 7 and 8 are multiplied mutually by multiplying circuit 3 composed of a digital circuit and with the phase comparison output of the multiplication result, the phase of oscillator 5 is controlled via loop filter 4 composed of a digital filter to output signal (y) from oscillator 5. Since the detection precision of a phase error depends upon the quantization precision of component (v), the phase error can be detected with high precision without increasing the scale of the circuit.
