Abstract
PURPOSE:To accelerate the heat release from the higher temp. part of hot rolled steel wire rod coil so as to reduce the temp. deviation among every sites of a ring which forms the coil, by unfastening the coil which is formed by piling hot rolled steel wire rod in layers while being conveyed in a surrounded environment. CONSTITUTION:Ring-shaped steel wire rod 4 is placed on a conveyor 5 and is formed into coil piled in layers. Then it is delivered to a roller table 6 for ascending and descending which has difference in level, where the coil is unfastened by at least one turn. A heat-retaining cover 7 which surrounds the coil is equipped in the advancing direction of the roller table 6 thereby forming a cooling zone. An air- blast cooling zone 8 is equipped on the outlet side of the heat-retaining cover 7, where the coiled wire rod 4 having been cooled is quenched, then it is sent to a bundling apparatus 10 by a conveyor 9. A nozzle 23 for spraying coolant is equipped at the position on the roller table 6 where the coil is unfastened, and coolant is sprayed to the higher temp. part on both side of falling wire rod rings 4. This apparatus allows to cool the coil at a uniform slow cooling rate in a range of small distance.
