Abstract

PURPOSE:To assure the space between preceding and succeeding coils without so much decrease in productivity by gradually increasing the conveying speed while coiling is under progression in an air cooling zone and decreasing the speed in a heat retaining zone thereby forming a desired layer thickness coil at the time of cooling the hot rolled wire rod coil during transferring. CONSTITUTION:A wire rod of 5.5mm.phi is rolled at a speed of, for example, 61m/sec, and is dropped by a coiler 1 into an air cooling zone 2a of 4m length at a 1,000mm.phi ring diameter. Here, the initial speed 6m/min is gradually increased as shown in the figure and is then shifted to the next heat retaining zone 2b of a 3m/min conveyor speed. Net rolling time of one billet is 177sec and a rolling interval is 10sec. As a result, the layer thickness coil of about 400 rings/m ring density is well formed in the zone 2b. In the position relations of the preceding and succeeding coils 3a, 3b, 3b completes moving about 1.5m upon arriving of the leading end of 3b at the final end of 2a during the interval of 10sec and even if the leading end of 3b shifts to 2b, the space (l) from the ring diameter is about 400mm. and mutual overlapping does not occur, as shown successively in the figures.
