Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain accurate absorbancy through exclusion of effects of interfering components, by simultaneously setting up two signals each corresponding to Zeeman components, pi and alpha, obtained by means of the titled device which applies a magnetic field to the specimen atomizing section or a light source and by applying a specific arithmetic operation. CONSTITUTION:An arithmetic operation is made in accordance with the fact that a proportional relationship exists between absorbancies of Zeeman components pi and alpha, whether the absorbancies may be due to atomic absorption of the atom being analyzed or non-atomic absorption of other interfering components than the atom being analyzed. For example, when obtaining absorbancies of Pb, Apb, not depending on the amount of interfering material Sb, simultaneous equations I and II are set up by measuring intensities I (lambda1) and I (lambda2) of specimen Zeeman components pi and alpha (where lambda1 is wavelength of Zeeman pi; lambda2 is wavelength of Zeeman alpha; Apb is absorbancy of Pb; Bsb is absorbancy of Sb; g, f are constants) and calculation is made in accordance with the equation III to obtain an accurate Apb.
