Abstract
PURPOSE:To continuously measure the concentration of suspended matter in water and organic index with high accuracy by determining the damping coefficients by the infrared light whose absorption by dissolved organic matter is negligible and ultraviolet light of high absorptivity and performing the specified operations. CONSTITUTION:Exit light of a mercury arc lamp 1 goes through a filter 2 which is changed over by a change-over device 4 via operating part 18, becomes the infrared light whose absorption by dissolved organic matter is negligible or ultraviolet light of high absorptivity and transmits through the solution infiltering the non-watertight part. The intensity of this transmitted light is converted to an electric signal by a detector 5 and the damping light intensity after the transmission is converted to an electric signal by a detector 11. The damping coefficient is determined by a divider 14. The damping coefficients AS1, AS0 by the ultraviolet light and infrared light by the known sample are obtained and the ratio alpha of these is determined. The operation of the damping coefficient amount of the suspended matter for ultraviolet light by the multiplication of the damping coefficient AT0 and ratio alpha of the specimen, etc. are accomplished by an operator 15, by which the concentration of the dessolved organic matter is determined and the suspended matter concentration and organic index are continuously measured with high accuracy.
