Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to control the ignition timing of the internal combustion engine even at the time when rotation is not caused, by feeding high-frequency current to a pickup coil for a crank-angle signal generator, and detecting the change in the inductance of said pickup coil. CONSTITUTION:The high-frequency current is fed to the electromagnetic pickup coil 17 for a crank-angle signal generator 15 which includes a rotatable member 16 rotated in synchronism with rotation of a crank shaft (not shown), so as to detect change in the inductance of pickup coil 17 which depends on the gap between pickup coil 17 and rotatable member 16. Here, the position of pickup coil 17 is adjusted such that the crank-angle signal is produced when rotable member 16 is located at a desired crank-angle position. By thus utilizing the high-frequency current, it is enabled to obtain the crank-angle signal with no need of rotating the crank shaft at a high speed and therefore to control the ignition timing even though the engine is not in operation.
