Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit the opening amount and timing of the scavenging port of a uniflow scavenging-type two-cycle engine to be controllable for obtaing a lower specific fuel consumption by providing a cylindrical scavenging control valve that reciprocates in the direction of the axis of the cylinder liner to open and close the scavenging port.
CONSTITUTION: A uniflow scavenging-type two-cycle engine has a scavenging port 21 in the lower part of a cylinder liner 20. The scavenging port 21 is opened or closed by a cylindrical scavenging control valve 30 reciprocating with a crankshaft of the engine. In other words, opening or closing of the scavenging port 21 is not directly related to the reciprocation of a piston 10, but performed by the control valve 30 reciprocated by the driving system or the like linked with the crankshaft. Said mechanism permits the opening timing of the scavenging port 21 to be retarded as well as its opening time to be lengthened and its opening area to be enlarged, so that an engine having a lower specific fuel consumption is obtained.
