Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the intake charging efficiency of an engine for increase in its output by providing an exhaust valve closing cam shaft with the primary and the secondary cam, and opening the exhaust valve through the secondary cam just before an intake valve closes, and closing it immediately after the intake valve closes. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust valve closing cam shaft 14 interlocking with a crankshaft in a valve driving mechanism 6 is formed with a cam 13 which is composed of the primary cam 15 and the secondary cam 16 arranged at a position separated from the cam 15 by a fixed angle in its peripheral direction. An exhaust stroke where the primary cam 15 opens an exhaust valve 4 is then switched into an intake stroke by opening an intake valve just before the exhaust valve 4 closes, and the intake valve is closed at a time when a piston has passed a bottom dead center. Next, the secondary cam 16 functions just before the intake valve closes in the above-mentioned intake stroke to open the exhaust valve 4 for making air-fuel mixture flow into a combustion chamber 2 without decrease in its flow velocity, and then the exhaust valve 4 is closed immediately after the intake valve closes.
