Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform smooth connecting and disconnecting a gear joint, by detecting a pushing or withdrawing force externally applied to external tooth of an intermediate joint member of internal tooth of an output joint member, and causing said internal tooth to rotate forwardly or backwardly when said force has exceeded a predetermined value.
CONSTITUTION: An intermediate connection member 3 fitted to a spline 1a on an input joint member 1 is moved by a hydraulic cylinder 4 through a lever 5 in a direction A to cause external tooth 3b to approach internal tooth 6a of an output joint member 6. Then a turning motor 8 is operated to cause the internal tooth 6a to rotate at an extremely slow speed through an intermediate shaft 7 so that phases of the tooth 3b, 6a are coincided with each other to mesh the tooth 3b with the tooth 6a. If the thrust force of the hydraulic cylinder has exceeded a predetermined value due to the friction force between the tooth 3b and 6a, and turning motor 8 is rotated reversely to reduce the friction force and to facilitate the movement of the external tooth 3b. When the lever 5 reaches the position of a detector 9b, the operations of the hydraulic cylinder 4 and the turning motor are stopped to complete the fitting of the tooth 3b, 6a. The disconnecting operation will be performed in the same manner with the above procedure. Thus the connecting and disconnecting of the gear joint can be smoothly performed.
