Abstract

PURPOSE: To weld effectively the single side of a joint having curved surface, by forming a backing composed of layers of heat resistant tape, flux, and heat resistant tape in the root gap on the backside of a groove, then by performing welding from the right side.
CONSTITUTION: Heat resistant seal tape 4 made of glass fiber etc. is stuck to the root gap 2 of groove of a tube 1 etc. to be welded from the back side. Welding flux 5 made by mixing a flame resistant agent and a thermosetting resin is scattered on the tape 4 in effective thickness, and the flux 5 is solidified by heating with a gas burner 7 etc. Subsequently, the flux 5 is covered with heat resistant tape 6 to form a backing. Then single side welding is performed from the right side by CO2 submerge arc welding etc. This method allows to form backing according to the shape of groove, and beautiful bead adapted to the material is obtained.
