Abstract
PURPOSE:To permit the captioned welding of extra thick plates of thickness 30mm or more through one layer one pass with good efficiency without requiring any special device by specifying the melt point, groove width and groove angle of the fused submerged arc flux to be used. CONSTITUTION:First, the flux of 1300 deg.C or more in the melting point measured in air is used. Below this, the removal characteristic of slag becomes extremely poor. The kind of the submerged arc flux is of fusion type and with the bond flux base, slag removal characteristic becomes defective. Next, the groove width is made 6 to 25mm. Below these, high temperature cracking occurs and slag removal characteristic degrades. Beyond these, it is no longer narrow groove and is undesirable in terms of weld member quality. The groove angle is made up to 20 deg. and above this the advantage intrinsic to narrow groove welding method is lost with plates. Here, the effect in the narrow groove method performance is virtually none at cumulated thickness of 30 or less.
